The College of Staten Island has once again been recognized among the nation’s leading institutions in the 2026 Washington Monthly College Rankings, earning placement on three prestigious national lists that highlight the College’s commitment to academic excellence, student success, and expanding opportunity. Washington Monthly evaluates colleges based on their contributions to the public good, emphasizing factors such as social mobility, research, affordability, and public service rather than institutional wealth or selectivity.

Among this year’s distinctions, CSI ranked among the Top 100 Best Universities and Colleges in the Northeast (out of more than 900 institutions), one of the Top 350 Best Universities and Colleges in the Nation (out of nearly 3,000 institutions), and in the nation’s Top 75 Hispanic-Serving Universities and Colleges (out of more than 700 institutions).

These rankings reinforce CSI’s growing reputation as one of the nation’s leading public institutions, recognized for providing students with a high-quality, affordable education while creating meaningful pathways to upward mobility.

“These recognitions from Washington Monthly affirm our longstanding commitment to student success and our mission to provide an exceptional education that transforms lives,” said CSI President Dr. Timothy G. Lynch. “Being recognized among the nation’s top colleges, and especially among the leading institutions serving Hispanic students, demonstrates the outstanding work of our faculty, staff, and students, and underscores our role as an engine of opportunity for Staten Island, New York City, and beyond.”

Washington Monthly‘s annual rankings have become a respected alternative to traditional college rankings by focusing on how effectively colleges serve students and society. The publication evaluates institutions using measures of social mobility, research, affordability, and public service, recognizing colleges that make a meaningful impact on their communities and prepare graduates for long-term success.

The latest recognition adds to a growing list of national accolades for CSI, further affirming the College’s momentum and continued investment in academic excellence, student achievement, and inclusive access to higher education.
