This summer, the College of Staten Island will unveil a revised and expanded New Student Orientation. All new freshman students are required to attend the two-day orientation that culminates with advisement and registration.
The goals of the new mandatory program are:
-to welcome and familiarize students with the College
-allow them to meet and interact with other new students, faculty, and staff
-to provide an academic overview and register them for their first semester at CSI
The New Student Orientation is a College-wide initiative that involves representatives from virtually every department on campus. Freshman students will interact with upper-division students as well as faculty and staff.
Students will:
-participate in team-oriented activities
-participate in academic and career workshops
-receive information on their rights, responsibilities, and University policies
-take their photo ID picture
-receive academic advisement to register for classes
-tour the campu, including a special focus on the Library
Information on New Freshmen Orientation, including a sample of the mandatory two-day format and a “Frequently Asked Questions” section, is available online http://www.csi.cuny.edu/CLUE/orientation.html.
The Orientation programs are designed to assist our new students in making the transition into college and help them to make the most of their CSI experience. Once each new student has completed their placement exams, they will receive instructions on how to choose and register for their two-day orientation from the Office of New Student Orientation.
