A delegation of university leaders from Vietnam visited the College of Staten Island to promote close cooperation and academic exchange.
CSI President Dr. Tomás D. Morales and the rectors of Thai Nguyen University and Thai Nguyen College of Industry, Vietnam, signed memoranda of understanding that promote the exchange of scholars for lectures, seminars, and participation in conferences, colloquia, and symposia for five years.
Additionally, the institutions agreed to an exchange of faculty and students for studies, the sharing of information and research of mutual interest, as well as continuing detailed discussions to build international training projects at both the degree and non-degree levels.
This month’s agreement follows successful events in November and December of 2008 where CSI hosted nearly 120 university presidents from Vietnam as they traveled the Northeast auditing higher education best practices in the United States. In January Pres. Morales and CSI faculty and staff visited Vietnam and participated in an educational conference with Vietnamese and American university leaders in Ho Chi Minh City.
Ann Helm, Executive Director of the CSI Center for International Service, says “we expect that this visit will enable us to collaborate in many different areas with our Vietnamese counterparts.” She added that the College has been working with Vietnamese partners since 1997.
