DOLPHINS COME BACK TO CAPTURE SECOND WIN OF DOUBLEHEADER VS. JOHN JAY

The first inning for both teams saw only one batter reach base. The Dolphin’s starting pitcher Mike Van Pelt struck out two in that first inning while the Bloodhound’s starting pitcher Braylin Perez also struck out two. The Bloodhound’s went to work in the top half of the second inning striking for four runs on four hits; powered by a lead off double by Corry Harper and a Loe Espinal RBI single that put them up, 4-0. The Dolphins bottom half of the second inning saw three up and three down.

The third, fourth and fifth inning for both teams saw only one hit combined. The Bloodhounds pushed across three more runs the top of the sixth inning to push the scored to, 7-0; starting with an RBI double to right center off the bat of Brian Mckenna that knocked Van Pelt out of the game. With two outs in the bottom of the sixth, the Dolphins rallied to score one run off a Will Difede RBI single through the left side that cut the lead, 7-1. The Bloodhounds stranded three runners in their top half of the seventh. The Dolphins bottom half of the seventh saw one run come across the plate off a James Lewis RBI single which cut the lead 7-2, but with the bases loaded Sal Todaro grounded out to the second basemen to end the game.

The Bloodhounds out hit the Dolphins 10-4, lead by Eddie Montanez’s and Mekenna’s two hits apiece and two runs batted in combined. The Bloodhounds starting pitcher Braylin Perez picked up the win as he pitched a complete game striking out nine Dolphin batters. Lewis went 1-1 with a run scored and a run batted in on a pinch hit at bat for the Dolphins. The Dolphin’s starter Mike Van Pelt picked up the lost pitching five innings while giving up seven hits and six earned runs.

In game two, the four and a half innings of silence on the board for both teams, that included just one hit apiece, was broken in the fifth. Will Difede led off for CSI with a walk and stole his way to third before a Dan Lynch single would score him for a 1-0 lead.

 John Jay answered back in the top of the sixth inning as a Billy Moran RBI single scored Ronald barillas who reached on a fielder’s choice to tie the score. Getting out of the bottom of the sixth inning with three quick outs, John Jay stretched their lead in the top of the seventh. After reaching on a walk, Owen Kimmel reached second with a Corry Harper single and eventually scored on a CSI error. Harper followed, scoring on Moran’s single for a 3-1 lead going into the final half of inning.

Frank Smith led of with a single up the middle that brought up Difede, who walked. Lewis than reached on a John Jay error pushing Smith home and Difede to third. With runners in scoring position, Lynch singled to first as Difede crossed home easily before a speedy Lewis followed to score the winning run on the error by John Jay’s wild throw home.

Both teams totaled five hits apiece. CSI had six errors to John Jay’s two.

Jonathan Aponte earned the win facing nine batters with a strikeout in 1.2 innings. Chris Matusiewicz had a fine performance in his five innings pitched allowing just three hits.

Lynch led for CSI with two hits and two RBI. Smith, George Kantzian and Roman each had a hit.

The Dolphins will travel to MCU Park tomorrow for a single noon game against John  Jay.
