Joseph Palmeri went 2-4 with 4 RBI and three runs scored in the big win over Mt. St. Vincent

The College of Staten Island men’s baseball squad got back in the win column after a modest two-game slide, ripping through the College of Mount Saint Vincent by a 14-2 count in a single, non-conference, contest played at the CSI Baseball Complex this evening.  The Dolphins improved to 13-9 overall, while MSV dropped to 0-19.  CSI has taken all three meetings from the visiting Dolphins this season.

The Dolphins set the tone early, flying to a 10-0 lead after only three innings, giving starter John Baggs plenty of run support.  An RBI-double by Joseph Palmeri got the scoring going, plating Bryan Moreno in the first.  Palmeri would then score on a Chris Ramanauskas double, and after advancing to third base, he would score on a Will DiFede ground-out.  In the second frame, CSI chased MSV starter Dan DiLascio, plating five runs.  Palmeri again was the catalyst, stepping up with the bases jammed and scorching a base-clearing double to left field.  Two batters later, Robert Bernardo also doubled to left field scoring Palmeri and Ramanauskas to give CSI the commanding 8-0 edge after two frames.

A pair of MSV errors in the third inning, part of four on the day for the visiting Dolphins, led to another pair of runs, and CSI added a single run in the sixth and another three in the seventh to seal the scoring.  A Michael Milazzo double did the trick in the sixth, scoring James Lewis, while a Ramanauskas double highlighted the seventh.

Meanwhile, freshman hurler Baggs allowed eight hits, but just a lone earned run through six innings of work, fanning five in six innings to gain the win.  Michael Gillen added two scoreless innings of relief, with Chris Matusziewicz pitched the ninth inning, allowing an MSV run on a Michael Kuczinski pinch-hit sac fly.

CSI got two hits each from Moreno, Palmeri, Ramanauskas, and Milazzo.

The Dolphins will have a busy weekend, playing three games against John Jay College.  On Saturday, CSI and John Jay will play a doubleheader at CSI beginning at 12 Noon in games that will count towards the conference standings.  On Sunday, the teams will play a single game at CSI at 12 Noon.  That game will not count towards the CUNYAC standings.
