Barbara Dicicco-Bloom earned her PhD from NYU. She has taught at Lehman College and has an appointment to the CUNY Graduate Center. Dr. DiCicco-Bloom’s research primarily employs qualitative and mixed methodologies. Her clinical background in nursing is primary care, home care and hospice care. Her research has focused on relationships among health care professionals that both facilitate and interfere with the care provided to patients within the context of these settings. She recently completed two studies. One identified issues that interfere with information sharing among oncologists, primary care clinicians (nurse practitioners and family medicine physicians) and their patients. The second explored the relationships of nurse practitioners and physicians in family medicine practices. At present she is engaged in an ethnographic study of a hospice setting within the context of a large medical center. Dr. DiCicco-Bloom was the first nurse Director and Principle Investigator of the National Health Services Research Fellowship in Primary Care from 2007-2009 in the Department of Family Medicine at the University of Medicine and Dentistry/Robert Wood Johnson Medical School in New Brunswick. We are happy to have her join us.
