The College of Staten Island women’s tennis team ran their win streak up to four games today, scoring a 7-2 victory over visiting Berkeley College of New York as part of non-league play at the CSI Tennis Center. The Dolphins improved to 10-3 overall with the victory, while the Knights fell to 2-1.
CSI got off to a fast start, taking all three doubles flights by convincing scores. In the top flight, Nozima Toshpulatova and Sabrina Bragerton-Nasert scored an 8-0 win, as did the No. 2 team of Madiha Mulla and Samantha Mazier. In the No. 3 spot, the CSI duo of Viktoriya Volkova and Michelle went nearly unblemished, scoring an 8-1 win over BC-NY’s Ekaterina Zharkova and Alessandra Lippolis.
Berkeley was able to score a pair of wins in singles but it would prove to be not nearly enough. Bragerton-Nasert at No. 2, won 6-1, 6-0, over Maria Avila, and moments laterMulla scored a 6-2, 6-1, winner in the No. 3 spot to clinch the five points needed to win. BC got on the board with a win by Lippolis at No. 6, and shortly after, Toshpulatova pulled out a gritty, back-and-forth, affair in the pole position over Ceren Aksoy, 6-4, 6-3.
CSI would split the final two flights. In the No. 5 slot, Mazier pulled out a 7-5, 6-3, decision over Susan Wong, but the Knights returned with a win at No. 4, as Victoria Mikalson out-lasted Volkova, 6-2, 5-7, 10-7.
CSI will be back on their home court tomorrow, hosting John Jay College at 4pm to continue conference play. CSI will be selling baked goods and holding raffles to help support Autism Speaks as part of their Autism Awareness campaign. Admission is free.
