The LGBTQ Resource Center at the College of Staten Island presents the following events next week:
NYC Anti-Violence Project (AVP) Tabling, Tuesday, Sept. 13, Campus Center (Building 1C), 11:00am to 2:00pm
Mission: AVP empowers lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, and HIV-affected communities and allies to end all forms of violence through organizing and education, and supports survivors through counseling and advocacy.
Vision: AVP envisions a world in which all lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, and HIV-affected people are safe, respected, and live free from violence.

Count Me In: Ableism in LGBTQ+ Spaces , Tuesday. Sept. 13, Building 2N, Room 110, 2:30pm – 4:30pm
Ableism is one of the “-isms” that tend to be ignored when discussing activism work. In this workshop, Mickey Valentine Thomas will use their personal experiences as well the art of dialogue to have an open discussion about ableism and to allow folks to unpack normalized, but not okay, behaviors that they have perpetuated in safer spaces.
Some of the terms that will be discussed will be ableism, disability, and microaggressions. Activities that will be done will involve walking in the facilitator’s shoes in an activity as well as having open discussions in the space.
This is a PG CLUE event, presented in partnership with the Center for Student Accessibility.
Come and join a support group in which you can feel safe as an LGBTQ+ student to make friends and discuss anything you desire. This is a group for you to receive and give support, learn about other people’s experiences, and be in a safe place for exploration.
Topics may include, but are not limited to, Coming Out, Activism, Homophobia, LGBTQ Rights, the Media, Family, College Life, Identity, Sex, Safety, World Politics, Friendship, Relationships.
