As a reminder, this is the final week of extended hours for the summer and we will be resuming normal business hours as of Monday, Aug. 17. To ensure the availability of on-campus support services for our students, we will also return to our pre-summer on-site density for staff on that date. This means that staff must be on campus for at least 80% of their work time (i.e., four days in person and one day remote per week). The use of annual leave or sick leave does not reduce this onsite requirement. For example, if an employee takes one day of annual leave in a week, they are still expected to fulfill the minimum four-day onsite requirement and will be required to work onsite on days that could otherwise be designated as remote. Of course, this does not prevent supervisors from approving annual leave as they deem appropriate.

Nonetheless, not every position lends itself to a remote component. This determination will be made by supervisors in consultation with their managers/directors and should be based on the essential functions of the position and the needs of the department.  Supervisors and employees should continue to refer to CUNY’s Flexible Work Guidelines for helpful information. Please note that all employees who are approved to work a portion of their work schedule remotely (20% or less) should complete and sign a Remote Work Agreement and submit it to their supervisor for signature. Each form should detail the employee’s Fall 2026 schedule as approved by their supervisors. The use of these agreements has been extended for use through June 30, 2027, pursuant to agreements with the PSC and DC 37 (including Teamsters Local 237, SEIU Local 300, IATSE Local 306, and New York State Nurses Association).

Each department should have a master schedule detailing office coverage, which should be shared with the appropriate division administrator. These schedules should be completed as soon as possible, but no later than the first day of fall classes, Friday, Aug. 28. Please also ensure that all email auto-replies, voicemails, and department websites have current and up-to-date information. It is important that students, as well as our colleagues across campus, know how to reach a specific department when needed.

As always, those who qualify for a reasonable accommodation under CUNY’s Procedures-for-Implementing-Reasonable-Accommodations-9.21.2016.pdf (cuny.edu) can submit a request for a reasonable accommodation to accessemployee@csi.cuny.edu.

In limited circumstances where vacations and/or illnesses result in smaller departments having no on-site coverage for a temporary period, supervisors should consult with the appropriate administrator and ensure proper signage and notifications are in place so that visitors know how the department can be reached.

Public Safety staff and other essential employees will continue to work 100% in-person, and we are grateful for their continued presence on campus.

Should you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us directly @CSI HumanResources.

We hope you enjoy the remainder of the summer.
