The College of Staten Island men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams concluded their respective regular seasons this evening, taking lop-sided wins over York College in the process. The CSI men won their half of the boxscore, 151-36, while the women took a 102-46 win. The CSI men improved to 8-2 overall and 4-0 in the CUNYAC, which the women moved to 5-6 overall and 4-2 in th CUNYAC. The York men moved to 1-7 and 0-4 in the conference, while the women fell to 1-8 overall.
It was all CSI from start the finish tonight. After the women took a relay win, Olivia Brown scored a win in the 800-meter Freestyle, and Jamilia Mambetalieva followed with a victory in the 200-meter Freestyle event, winning by 19 seconds. Ewa Wojciechowska then took the 50-meter Freestyle, coming in at 30.04. Alicia Defonte got in the win column thanks to a 2:58.35 run in the 200-meter Individual Medley and then Naomi Gaggi won the 100-meter Butterfly at 1:29.86.
Wojciechowska won again in the 100-meter Freestyle, and Defonte did the same in the 100-meter Backstroke. Brown then took the 400-meter Freestyle, and followed right back up with a second place showing in the 100-yard Breaststroke event. To finish up, CSI took the 200-meter Freestyle Relay uncontested.
It was more of the same for the men in their turns in the pool. York’s Justice McCain took the opening individual race, the 800 Free, but CSi then ripped off a win the 200 Free with Nicholas Defonte turning in a time of 2:11.42. Derek Villa then sprinted to a first-place finish in the 50 Free, and Brandon Lei did the same in the 200 IM, winning by 14 seconds. Mike Munoz got his first win of the season in the 100 Butterfly, coming in at 1:14.96.
Senior Tim Sweeney recorded his first individual win in the 100 Free, and then freshman Omar Zaky got in the win column with a 1:10.24 showing in the 100 Back. Pete Carle also took his first win of the year with a 6:33.32 run in the 400 Free, winning the event by over 73 seconds. Jonathan Gorinshteyn was last to register a gold, taking the 100 Breast.
Up next for the Dolphins will be the CUNYAC Championship Meet next weekend at Lehman College. The Dolphins will be aiming for their fourth straight title, while the Dolphin women will look to improve on their third place standing from a year ago.
