The College of Staten Island softball squad is on a seven-game roll and completed a 6-0 run through their weeks’ worth of games last week, and this week are celebrating another clean sweep of CUNYAC weekly awards. Antoinette Galbo took top honors as Player of the Week, Patricia Riches scored her third CUNYAC Rookie of the Week honor, while Jacqueline Cautela cleaned up with Pitcher of the Week honors.
Galbo certainly enjoyed her most productive week of the season, going 9-15 at the plate for an even .600 batting average, complete with 9 RBI and seven runs scored. She scattered six extra-base hits, including five doubles and her four walks helped her to a weekly on-base percentage of .684. In the field, Galbo sported a .933 field percentage manning the hot corner. Galbo’s most productive game came in a 15-0 win at York College on Sunday when she went 3-4 at the plate with six RBI and a pair of doubles.
For the season, Galbo sports a .378 batting average, leading the team with seven doubles while placing third on the team with seven walks.
Riches continued her monster freshman run. The freshman shortstop batted .444 this week, going 8-18 at the dish with five RBI and five runs scored. She posted two doubles and a pair of walks as well, going 4-4 with three RBI in a 13-0 win over York on Sunday. For the season, she leads the Dolphins with a .580 batting average, 29 hits, and three home runs, adding seven walks and a .977 glove in the field.
No one has been more dominating in the pitcher’s circle than Jacqueline Cautela. The senior is sporting a 6-0 record this season with a 0.18 ERA. CSI’s ace ran her scoreless streak to 32 innings, as she went 2-0 this week with two complete game shutout wins, the second a five-game perfect game against York where she fanned 9 batters.
CSI is back in action on Thursday when they travel to William Paterson University for a 3pm doubleheader.
