The College of Staten Island men’s tennis team made it five in a row this afternoon with a quality win over Penn State – Abington in Abington, PA. The Dolphins picked up a 6-3 victory over the Lions to move to 6-3 overall while dropping PSU-A to 5-5 overall.
The red hot duo of Chris Pinto and Raymond Hwang saw their three match win streak come to a close this afternoon but their teammates were able to pick them up on court two and three to send play to singles in the Dolphins’ favor. Matthew Vesci and Alex Tsui cruised to an 8-2 victory on court three while court two produced a showdown that would eventually go in the Dolphins favor. Akaki Dundua and Tao Lin went into a tiebreaker and took it 7-5.
Staten Island went into singles play up 2-1 but they knew not to take that lead for granted. Andrew Adia picked up a big win for the Dolphins in the two slot taking the tiebreaker 7-1 in the first set before going on to win 6-1 in the second. After falling in his opening set on court two, Pinto rallied in the second to take a 6-2 victory before eventually falling in the third 7-5. Hwang, Dundua and Mukhiddin Nuriddinov all won on their respective courts. Hwang and Dundua eased past their opponents 6-2, 6-2 while Nuriddinov blanked Alexander Dunetz, 6-0, 6-0.
The Dolphins will return to action tomorrow afternoon when they travel to take on CUNYAC opponents York College at 2:00 PM. CSI will once again put their win streak on the line.
