College of Staten Island softball senior Jacqueline Cautela is in the middle of a tremendous year, and on the heels of a Player of the Week citation from the CUNYAC, she has now been awarded the same honor nationally by Fastpitch News. Cautela summed up a perfect week last week in what has been a perfect year to date. The Dolphins, meanwhile, are smack in the middle of a 17-game winning streak.
CSI went 6-0 last week, and Cautela was recognized for her work in the circle, as she went 3-0 with a 0.00 ERA. In 19 innings of work she allowed just a lone, unearned run, fanning 16 while walking only two batters. Including a win yesterday over Farmingdale State, Cautela is now 10-0 this season with a 0.22 ERA, a stretch that included 55 innings without yielding an earned run.
Cautela is approaching several career records, including the school’s all-time record for victories and strikeouts. She is the reigning three-time CUNYAC Tournament MVP, and CSI has the potential to clinch the CUNYAC Regular Season Championship this week as well.
The Dolphins are 21-3 overall and are next in action later this afternoon, when they face Baruch College for a 3:30pm doubleheader at Randall’s Island.
