We are sorry to announce the untimely passing of Dr. Boris Arshava on Monday, Jan. 1, after a short illness. Boris was a Research Associate in the Chemistry Department for more than 20 years and was highly respected by the faculty and students. He was an extremely gifted scientist who was trained in both physics and chemistry. There was virtually no instrument that Boris couldn’t repair and no experiment that was beyond his expertise. For many years, he has maintained and upgraded the equipment infrastructure in the Chemistry Department from the 600 MHz NMR to vacuum pumps. He trained many undergraduates, graduate students, and PhDs, and was beloved by his protégés. He was a patient and hard-working individual who gave his time and expertise willingly and with a kind and pleasant demeanor. During his years at CSI, Dr. Boris Arshava was a co-author on 39 peer-reviewed manuscripts in high-quality journals. He will be sorely missed.
