Piscataway, NJ | The College of Staten Island opened up the Metropolitan Swimming & Diving Championships on Friday night, taking part in opening events and earning points with a fraction of the their teams representing in preliminary and final round heats at Rutgers University.  

A total of seven participants are on hand representing CSI at the Metro Championship, with five on the men’s side and a pair on the women’s side.  all seven were in action on Friday, as 12 of the meet’s 42 events took place.  Preliminary heats take place in the morning, with finalists invited back in the evening for point-scoring opportunity.

WOMEN’S MEET
The action for CSI came in the preliminary rounds of competition.  CSI did not participate in relay events, and so the first official race for the Dolphins was the 500-yard Freestyle.  There, CSI’s Rachel Beyer placed 42nd in the field of 53 scorers during the preliminary rounds with a time of 6:10.67, improving her personal-best time by over 19 seconds.

Up next for CSI was the short form 50-yard Freestyle, and it was Cecelia Mauro’s opportunity to showcase and she did so with a race time of 28.97, beating her personal-best by 1.3 seconds, coming in at 28.97, good for 50th in the group of 73.

MEN’S MEET
CSI was very active on the men’s side of the ledger and earned a grand total of 62 points, good for 12th overall so far among 14 scoring teams.

The first cut was the 200-yard Freestyle Relay, and CSI garnered 11th place overall in preliminaries as Leo Litovsky, Sami Jindyeh, Michael Stora and Peter Carle came in at 1:33.61, CSI’s fastest time in the event all season.  In the evening’s final heats, CSI scored 12th place, improving on the time with a showing of 1:33.34

Up next in the 500-yard Freestyle, Litovsky came in 32nd overall among 39 finishers, improving on his personal-best time by almost eight seconds, at 5:29.42. Trevin Robinson put in a time of 6:07.48, good for 38th in the field.

Stora was up next for CSI in the 200-yard Individual Medley.  The freshman placed 41st in prelims with a time of 2:16.56.

Up next in the 50-yard Freestyle, CSI had a pair of swimmers.  Carle was in first, tying for 46th place among the field of 79 competitors with a time of 22.23, a person-best for him.  Jindyeh was not too far behind in 53rd with a time of 23.43, beating his personal-best by 0.03.  

Finally, CSI was a part of the 400-yard Medley Relay, scoring a time of 3:57.47 for 12th place in prelims with the team of Litovsky, Stora, Carle, and Jindyeh.  When it came time for the finals in the evening, CSI crushed their time with a mark of 3:52.45, good for 11th place.

The Metro Swim Championships continue today and into tomorrow with CSi slated to appear in events each day.
