Join us today for the Queer Lecture Series: Queer “Zines in the Academy,” in the Center for the Arts Media Culture Screening Room (Building 1P, Room 223) from 2:30pm to 4:00pm. This is a CC CLUE event.
The LGBTQ Resource Center invites the campus community to an exciting lecture series celebrating our LGBTQ+ faculty and staff! Refreshments will be served.
Zines are DIY print publications that people make and distribute themselves. This talk will explore the history of zine-making, will highlight some queer zines (both contemporary and historical), and discuss how libraries collect identity-based zines today. Prof Anne Hays Adkison will bring some zines to the lecture to pass around. Let’s have fun and learn about queer zines.
Presenter:
Anne Hays Adkison is an Associate Professor and Instruction Librarian here at CSI. They have authored numerous academic articles about zines, library instruction, and OER issues. Their favorite hobbies are making zines, riding bikes, sewing, and DIY craft-making.
Future Lectures:
Thursday, Nov. 21: Women and Alcohol, presented by Prof. Christine Flynn Saulnier
Thursday, Dec. 12: Writing Queer Memory and Desire in Andrew Haigh’s All of Us Strangers, presented by Prof. David Gerstner
