The New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (DOHMH) has issued a memorandum concerning upcoming control efforts to reduce mosquito activity and the risk of West Nile Virus in Queens and Staten Island.
As part of this initiative, DOHMH will conduct adulticiding treatments—targeted spraying of U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)- and NYS Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC)-approved pesticides—to reduce mosquito activity in designated areas of both boroughs. Please be advised, the College falls within the planned spray zone. DOHMH has contacted to our office to coordinate and ensure proper notification.
Spraying around the campus perimeter, particularly near wooded areas, is scheduled for 1:00am on Tuesday, Aug. 4. This timing was chosen to minimize exposure, as most campus constituents will be off-site. Night shift essential personnel and dormitory residents should stay indoors when possible during spraying.
