The College of Staten Island was recently featured by CBS New York for hosting a free memorial concert honoring Staten Islanders who were killed or later died as a result of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks.

Held as the region approaches the 25th anniversary of 9/11, the concert brought the community together through music, with Staten Island performers singing songs spanning generations selected because they held special meaning for the families of those who were lost. Among those featured was Samantha Chiodo, who performed one of her mother’s favorite songs in memory of her father, a New York City firefighter who died from a 9/11-related illness.

The event was organized by Dennis McKeon, whose work includes supporting 9/11 families. CSI’s own connection to the tragedy was also highlighted, including the College’s memorial bearing the names of alumni who died as a result of the attacks. CSI will hold its annual 9/11 Memorial Service on September 10.
