As you probably know, CSI is competing against 17 other NYC Colleges and Universities to see which college community volunteers the most time for community service, as part of the College Challenge. The Challenge is an NYC initiative to promote service and volunteerism at CSI and in New York City. Its aim is to achieve two overarching goals: make our city the easiest place in the world to volunteer and set a new standard for how college communities can tap the power of their people to tackle our community’s most pressing challenges.
We are now in the last few weeks with the Challenge, ending at midnight on Friday, Apr. 30. CSI is currently in a tight race for second place, but we’re aiming high. We need your help to make CSI finish strong. If you are currently volunteering for any non-profit organization, school, hospital, group, or fundraiser, log on now and help those hours earn CSI the title of most socially responsible school in NYC.
If you not currently volunteering, but want to do your part to help CSI and your community, we have just the event for you. The American Cancer Society Relay For Life will be held on Friday, Apr. 30 at CSI’s track by parking lot 6. The walk will begin at 3:00pm and end at midnight. This is a celebration that brings together neighbors, friends, work associates, and families to celebrate the lives of those who have had cancer and to remember those we have lost and fight back against a disease that takes too much. Teams from CSI and the Staten Island community will compete against each other to raise the most money and travel the most miles around the CSI track into the night. While the Relay is going on, team members hang out and enjoy food, games, and live entertainment. Start your own team or join one of the teams already formed on campus.
