The Foundation of the College of Staten Island has announced that Joe Rende, Vice President of Energy Solutions Services, Metro New York, for National Grid, is the newest member of its Board of Directors. Rende was voted in by the Board at its meeting last December.
In 1985 Rende joined Brooklyn Union as a Management Trainee. Since then, he has progressed up through Brooklyn Union and later KeySpan Energy, holding Director positions in Key Account Sales, Long Island Regional Sales, and Corporate Marketing. He was promoted to his current position of Vice President Energy Solutions Services in July of 2007.
Rende was the recipient of the “40 under 40” Award (one of Long Island’s 40 rising stars under the age of 40 in 2001) from Long Island Business News, as he was responsible for doubling natural gas sales in the Long Island region. Rende has also received the Brooklyn Union Alchemist Award for leading the commercial sales team to record results in 1997.
Rende graduated from Manhattan College with a BME Degree in Mechanical Engineering in1983. He received his Master’s Degree in Business Administration from Long Island University in1989. He also attended Executive Education Programs at Columbia University School of Business for Sales Management and Competitive Marketing Strategy in 2000-2001.
In addition to his duties at National Grid, an international energy company that purchased KeySpan Corporation in 2007 to create the second largest utility company in the United States and one of the largest in the world, Rende serves on the Board of Directors for ACIT (Advancement for Commerce, Industry and Technology); SIEDC (Staten Island Economic Development Council); and BCC (Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce). On a national level, he serves as Vice Chairman for the Energy Solutions Center, a national organization consisting of all of the major natural gas utilities in the United States and Canada.
The mission of the CSI Foundation is to secure philanthropic support for CSI to reach its highest level of academic excellence as one of CUNY’s senior colleges and the only institution of public higher education in the Borough.
