Please join us for informal discussion with the Commencement Speaker, Lady Borton, on Wednesday, May 27 in the Center for International Service (Building 2A, Room 206) from 10:00am to 11:00am.

Lady Borton is a nationally acclaimed scholar, author, and humanitarian whose expertise focuses on Vietnam. Her writings include Sensing the Enemy: An American Woman Among the Boat People of Vietnam (1984), the only account of the Boat People’s exodus written from the inside, and most recently, The Defiant Muse: Vietnamese Feminist Poetry from Antiquity to the Present (2007). This book, published by the Feminist Press of The City University of New York, is the first book from Asia in the Feminist Press’ Defiant Muse Bilingual Poetry Series.

Lady Borton continues her work as a writer, editor, and translator, and is currently an advisor with the Center for Sustainable Community Development in Hanoi, a non-profit dedicated to rural development projects.

Lady has also been a terrific friend to CSI. She has lectured at the College, helped us to understand Vietnam, and provided invaluable guidance as CSI has developed programs and friendships in Vietnam.
