College of Staten Island Baseball swept St. Joseph’s College-Brooklyn on Sunday afternoon in a non-conference doubleheader. Game one finished with a score of 13-6; game two, 9-3. The Dolphins are now 4-6 overall.
After Pat Gale started with an RBI single to left field to put the score at 1-0 going into the top of the second, St. Joseph’s added a run to tie at one. The Dolphins wasted no time pulling ahead and scoring four runs at the bottom half of the second behind a sac-RBI by Dan Lynch and RBI double’s by Bryan Moreno, Henry Roman and Gale.
The Bears didn’t back down scoring three runs at the top of the third inning to close the gap to 5-4. The Dolphins cushioned their lead to 7-4 with two more runs in the third and fourth inning when Moreno hit an RBI single Joe Cassano followed by a wild pitch that scored Gale.
The Bears added one run in the fifth inning with a sac-fly play. The Dolphins didn’t trust their 7-5 lead and added six more runs in the sixth. Mark Glennerster started with an RBI single followed by a two run single by Lynch, a Moreno RBI single, a Roman RBI single and a SAC RBI by Gale.
The Bears were able to add just one run in their final at bat at the top of the seventh.
Gale took the win on the mound pitching a complete game with 8 strikeouts.
The first inning of game two was quiet for both teams before CSI got on board in the second inning with a Glennerster RBI double to center field. The Dolphins added two more in the third inning behind Matt Morales’ two run single.
The Bears added a run in both the fourth and fifth inning before CSI would open up the game at the bottom fifth. After Gale singled and Falcone walked, Morales brought them both home with a double to center field to put the score at 5-2. Glennerster then reached on a single and crossed home with a single by Todaro. Up next was Torres who slammed a two run single to left center putting the score at 8-2.
The Bears squeezed out one run at the top of the sixth with an RBI double. CSI also added one more in the sixth inning with Gale scoring on a wild pitch. The Bears were unable to catch up in the seventh ending with one runner left one base.
James Mardikos took the win for the Dolphins.
At day’s end, Morales led with four hits and four RBI and Moreno and Gale each added four hits with three RBI.
The Dolphins will host Purchase College tomorrow, Monday, March 21 in a 4:00 pm game.
