The Center for the Arts (CFA) at the College of Staten Island (CSI) announces the first classical music concert of its 2011-2012 season: a performance by The Chamber Music Collective of CSI. The Collective’s concert, entitled “With Strings Attached,” will take place in the Center for the Arts Williamson Theatre on Monday, Oct. 24 at 7:30pm. Tickets for this performance are $10. The Chamber Music Collective is comprised of the CSI Music Program’s performance faculty: David Wechsler, flute; Elena Heimur, soprano; Edward Brown, guitar; Olivier Fluchaire, violin; and Sylvia Kahan, pianist and artistic director of the Collective.  Guest artists violinist Erno Kallai, violist Arthur Dibble, and cellist Justina Sullivan will also join the ensemble.

The program will consist of Mozart’s Quartet for Flute and Strings, K. 285; five songs by American art-song composer Richard Hundley; Boccherini’s Guitar Quintet No. 4 in D major “Fandango,” and Dmitri Shostakovitch’s celebrated Piano Quintet in G minor, Op. 57.
 
This concert is part of the Daniel Pearl World Music Days. Daniel Pearl was the journalist and musician who was murdered by terrorists in Pakistan. His family and friends decided to carry on his work of connecting people through music and communication by starting the Daniel Pearl Foundation.
