In recognition of Black History Month, the CSI Archives & Special Collections is celebrating The Black Theatre Workshop at the College of Staten Island with a display of posters, photographs, programs, and scripts, which will be on display in the Library Archives (Building 1L, Room 216) now through Saturday, Mar. 31.
The Black Theatre Workshop was formed during the spring semester in 1971. Established as an important part of the Institute of African American Studies at Richmond College (a predecessor institution to the College of Staten Island), it functioned as a springboard for students to observe, study, experience, create, and enact the drama of African American life and culture. The Workshop also served as a supplement to courses offered by the Institute, dedicated to shedding light on long-neglected pieces of African American history.
All exhibition items are on loan from Professor Charles Thomas of the Department of Performing and Creative Arts and founder of the Black Theatre Workshop.
