In its final regular season test before the CUNYAC Tournament begins on Wednesday, the College of Staten Island scored a convincing, 9-0, win over the College of New Rochelle as part o non-conference play at Beckwith Pointe Club in New Rochelle, NY. CSI improved to 10-4 overall with the win while the Angels fell to 1-6-1.
CSI got off to a 3-0 lead after doubles thanks to great play all around. In the top-spot, the team of Nancy Almazo and Ilona Stoyko scored an 8-1 win, while Jessica Barabatko and Jacqueline Jamaleddine defeated Nancy Varughese and Jhanelle Mullings, 8-4. At No. 3, Nataliya Zitser and Renee Zadok were convincing in an 8-0 win.
When play turned to singles, CSI was dominant, dropping only a total of seven games. Sabrina Bragerton-Nasert scored a 10-0 win in the top spot, while Barabatko played in the No.2 position and won, 10-1. Madiha Mulla at No.3 and Nataliya Zitser at No. 4 also won by 10-1 counts. Almazo won the fifth spot at 10-2, while Jamaleddine scored a 10-4 over Megan Pasko in the No. 6 spot.
With the regular season finalized, CSI will now turn its attention to the CUNYAC Postseason. Although in a first-place tie at 7-1 with both Hunter College and Brooklyn College, CSI has earned the No. 3 seeding, and will face No. 6 Lehman College at the CSI Tennis Center tomorrow afternoon at 3:30pm. The winner will move on to the CUNYAC Semifinals on Friday afternoon at the National Tennis Center.
