In this production of A Streetcar Named Desire, Blanche, Stanley, Stella, and the rest return to a very different New Orleans than the one in which Williams originally placed them. This New Orleans is hard, urban, devastated, and contemporary. Within it, Blanche, arriving destitute at the home of her sister Stella and Stella’s husband Stanley, creates a force field of violence and passion. The play, containing some of the most beautiful lines in the theater, and memorable moments of love, speaks to us about the cost of brutality and loss.
