The College of Staten Island Men’s Volleyball club team earned its second win this semester by defeating Sarah Lawrence College in four sets (25-21, 25-10, 23-25, 25-22) earlier today in Bronxville, NY. In the first two sets the Dolphins never relinquished the lead while in the third and fourth sets there were 19 ties and 13 lead changes.

The Dolphins came out strong in the first set jumping out to a 7-1 lead powered by kills from Dewayne Stewart and Brian Sheydvasser. The Dolphins continued to build on the lead off multiple SLC errors to go up by as many as eight. From there SLC started to chip into the lead and got to as close as three points, 19-16, but the Dolphins would eventually pull out the win, 25-21.

In the second set, the Dolphins posted their best offensive numbers of the season. They tallied a total of nine kills with a .261 hitting percentage while also racking up three service aces and four blocks. CSI was led in that set by Patryk Stepien’s three kills and three digs while Stewart had two of the four blocks.

The third set for the Dolphins was a see-saw game as many of the starters rested while giving some playing time to the subs. Overall the game was very evenly matched. In the end, SLC took the third set by a score of, 25-23. Ishaan Pujari led the way for SLC with two kills, one service ace, four digs and one block.

The Dolphins did not want a repeat of the third set, thus, the starters were back on the court, however all 12 allowed substitutions were used. In what was yet another back and forth affair the Dolphins biggest lead was four, 22-18. Kills by Philip Szumanski and Justin Edwardsen along with a few errors by SLC saw the Dolphins take the fourth and final set, 25-22.
CSI was led by Edwardsen’s 11 kills and four service aces and Sheydvasser’s eight kills and six digs. Szumanski racked up 22 assists while Stepien finshed with seven kills and a team high 11 digs.
