On a cloudy 45 degree day the Dolphins took on the Greyhounds of Moravian College in a non-conference doubleheader at the CSI Softball Complex. The Dolphins dropped game one by a score of, 14-2, which lasted five innings. CSI dropped game two 14-1. With wins the Greyhounds improved to 24-6 overall and the Dolphins fell to 12-11, respectively.
The Dolphins were able to keep pace with the Greyhounds in the first inning as both teams were able to score two runs. However the Greyhounds made a pitching change that would drastically change the game as they brought in sophomore pitcher Carsin Conner who was able to strike out Maxine Jasko and get Alissa Setteducato to pop out.
A big second and third inning sealed the deal for the Greyhounds as they would go on to score 11 combined runs in the two innings. A two RBI double to left field by Sergas which brought in a third run off of a throwing error putting the Greyhounds up 7-2.
A two run home run over the left field fence by Rachel DeLucia ignited a six run third inning for Moravian which had six hits. Staten Island would be blanked the rest of the game and were only able to accumulate seven hits in the game as well as an error.
In game two Jaqueline Cautela started on the mound for the Dolphins and was able to keep the Dolphins in the game for around two innings as the score was, 2-1, after two innings. The third inning is when the Greyhounds were able to extend their lead with four runs to put them up 6-1
Then in the fifth inning, Moravian was able to load the bases and then get a deep double to center field which brought home two runs to give the Greyhounds a 12-1 lead.
The Dolphins would go on to lose game two 14-1.
CSI is back in action tomorrow in a CUNYAC doubleheader against Baruch College at 12:00 pm.
