The College of Staten Island’s men and women’s soccer team are both in action today at the CSI Soccer Complex against Purchase College.  The women will have the first game starting at 12 immediately followed by the men’s game at 2.

For the women’s side, the last time these two teams met was September 14, 2013, where the Dolphins emerged victorious by a score of 3-1.  Last season for the Panthers did not go as they had hoped, they went just 5-13 after going 8-10 in 2012.  Today’s game will be the fourth for the Dolphins in their 2014 campaign while this will be the Panthers’ first game of the season.  Purchase didn’t lose many players from last season, Amanda Green, their leading scorer from last season who happened to be a freshman now has a year under her belt and will look to make an even bigger impact on the field this season.  For the Dolphins they weren’t so fortunate to have their leading scorer in Demi-Jean Martorano return as the team lost her to graduation, and it has showed early on in the season as CSI is 0-2-1 in their first three games.  The Dolphins will hope that Jennifer Cosenza or Samantha Wysokowski can step up and replace the goal scoring threat that Martorano brought to the team.

The men have shown improvement in each game they’ve played this season despite starting the season 0-3.  They lost a heartbreaker on Wednesday against NYU in what was a 3-2 loss in double overtime.  CSI will hope that today they will be able to get their first win and continue their improvement before CUNYAC play starts on September 20th.  Purchase comes into today’s game with a 2-1 record however their one loss this season came from a game on the road so the Dolphins will hope to capitalize on their home field advantage.  These two teams have been evenly matched since 1985, as the overall record between the two teams is 2-2-1.
