The College of Staten Island women’s volleyball squad was in action this afternoon at the New Jersey City University tournament, where they would split a pair of matches as part of non-conference play.  First, CSI took a 3-1 win over John Jay College, the fell 3-0 to the host Gothic Knights.  CSI is 9-13 overall this season.

The Dolphins won the opener over John Jay by scored of 25-6, 18-25, 25-14, and 25-15.  CSI had 8 kills and zero attack errors in the opening game over JJC and after falling in the second set, righted the ship.

Pola Poskrobko finished with 11 in 30 attacks and six service aces.  Defensively Victoria Wong was sensational with 29 digs, while Selma Kolenovic had 19 digs and five kills.

CSI could not get things going, however, in the second match against NJCU.  They fell by scores of 25-18, 25-12, and 25-22.  Poskrobko again shined, leading all with 9 kills next to just two errors.  Wong had 18 digs and tied for a team high three aces.  NJCU’s Indigo Hatcher finished with a game-high 12 kills.

CSI will face CCNY at 12 Noon tomorrow in the tournament and then will play in either the tournament’s championship or consolation match at 2pm.
