It was a light week that was for College of Staten Island swimming and diving a week ago, but following wins over Brooklyn College, CSI took home three CUNYAC weekly honors. Women’s standout Dakota Dawkins took home the conference’s Performer of the Week honor following another record-breaking week, and CSI divers John Pignatelli and Tina Chen took home Diver of the Week honors for their work on the boards against the Bulldogs.
On the women’s side, CSI scored a healthy 116-85 win over Brooklyn, and Dawkins was sensational as always. The junior was part of the winning 200-yard Medley Relay team, and then followed with a 2:32.44 performance in the 200-yard Individual Medley. Saving her best run for last, Dawkins added another first-place finish, and a new CSI record in the 100-yard Breaststroke, coming in at 1:10.77, breaking her own previous record.
On the diving board Tina Chen was CSI’s only entrant, and the senior took first place and added crucial points in both the one-meter and three-meter events. On the one-meter platform, Chen was tops with 144.75 points, while she also placed first in three-meter competition with 186.52 points.
No stranger for taking top diving honors is John Pignatelli. The senior dominated the field of six divers in both the one-meter and three-meter boards. In the one-meter, he won the competition by 72 points, coming in at 295.27, and he scored higher on the three-meter platform topping out at 302.92, winning the competition by 65 points.
The CSI women are 3-4 overall and 2-1 in the CUNYAC and will next face off against Hunter College on Friday, December 12 at 6pm at the Sports & Recreation Center. The men are 3-3, 1-1, respectively, and are idle until a January 8 meeting at York College.
