The College of Staten Island men’s volleyball team saw their modest two-game win streak canceled, falling in straight sets to Lehman College, 3-0, as part of CUNYAC play at the Apex in the Bronx, NY.  Final scores of the game were 25-10, 25-20, and 25-13.  The loss pulled the Dolphins down to 2-5 overall and 1-2 within the CUNYAC, while the Lightning extended to 4-2, 2-1, respectively.

In the first set, Lehman rallied for six straight points to take a commanding, 7-2, lead, and then scored the final eight points of the game to boot after getting out a 17-10 edge.  A service ace by Philip Szumanski got CSI off to a 4-0 lead in the second set, and CSI had a lead as late as 12-11 on a Brian Sheydvasser kill, but again the Lightning was able to break away.

Two Sheydvasser kills and an ace by the sophomore got CSI off to another solid, 5-2, start in the third set but again Lehman proved too much for the Dolphins, and at one point went on a 7-0 run to win the final set.

For Lehman, Miguel Gallardo topped all with 13 kills and 11 digs, while Jaleel Lino posted 12 kills.  Emmanuel Ortiz spread out 35 assists, while Gallardo led the squad with three service aces.  CSI was led by Mark Palencia’s 9 kills, with Sheydvasser adding eight.  Ronald Tisbe topped out with 9 digs.
