The College of Staten Island men’s basketball team is in action tonight at the CSI Sports & Rec Center at 5:30 pm against the Beavers of CCNY.

The last time these two teams met was on January 6, 2015 where the Dolphins traveled to New York, NY, and came home with a 78-61 win over the Beavers. CSI had a solid outing from Will Fonseca who scored 23 points and grabbed 12 rebounds while Thomas Delahanty scored 16 and got 8 rebounds.  The Dolphins lead the Beavers all time, 50-7, and have won 9 of the last 10 meetings.

The Beavers have struggled to find success this season which has led to a 6-13 overall record and 1-11 in the CUNYAC. Tonight’s game will be the first of a two game road trip before they head home for their final three games of the season. CCNY will come into tonight’s game on a five game losing streak will the hopes they will be able to snap that against the Dolphins. Khalil Hamer leads the Beavers with 20 points per game and has been a dominant force in the CUNYAC this season ranking 3rd in points per game.

CSI is coming off of a devastating loss to CUNYAC rivals Brooklyn College, 83-63.  The Dolphins struggled from the free throw line again, going just 8-18 (44%) in that game.  That loss snapped the Dolphins’ seven game win streak which was the longest of the season.  With the playoffs in the near future the Dolphins will want to rebound quickly from that loss and return to form against the Beavers tonight.  Will Fonseca and Frank Schettino will look for help from Delahanty inside to limit second chance opportunities by the Beavers and dominate the boards.  Fonseca has hit 500 points and grabbed 250 rebounds this season and is only the fourth other player in CSI history to accomplish this amazing feat.
