The College of Staten Island men’s tennis squad stayed hot today, extending their season-opening win streak within the CUNYAC to six, with an 8-1 win over CUNYAC-rivals John Jay College at the CSI Tennis Center this afternoon. The win lifted CSI to 6-1 overall and a perfect 6-0 within the CUNYAC, while the Bloodhounds fell to 2-7, 2-4, respectively.
CSI got out in front, 3-0, after doubles. Ed Ruffe and Andrew Adia at No. 1, and Raymond Hwang and Nolan Reese at No. 3 both recorded 8-3 wins, while the team of Austin Kapetanakis and Chris Livoti stayed red-hot via an 8-2 victory.
When play turned to Singles, CSI stayed the course, winning all but No. 6 Singles. Ruffe scored a hard-fought, 7-5, 6-4, win in the top spot over JJC ace Yevgeniy Remennik, while Kapetanakis at No.3, won a war against Richard Mills, 7-6 (7-3), 3-6, 11-9.
Up next for CSI will be a date against Baruch College on Tuesday, April 14, at 3:30pm, in a match that will likely determine the 2015 CUNYAC Regular Season Championship.
