I am extremely pleased to advise you that tonight, the CUNY Board of Trustees Committee on Faculty, Staff, and Administration officially recommended the appointment of Dr. Gary Reichard to serve as the College’s new Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs effective July 1, 2015.
Dr. Reichard’s appointment comes after a nationwide search that yielded 92 applicants. The College’s Search Committee conducted extensive neutral-site interviews with nine candidates, and the Committee unanimously recommended the appointment of Dr. Reichard following his campus visit.
Dr. Reichard has a long career in higher education, spanning over a 40-year period. He retired from the California State University system after 12 years of service combined in both faculty and administrative roles. After retirement, he held several Interim Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs positions through the Registry for College and University Presidents including Interim Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs at California State University, Dominguez Hills. He is currently finishing a term as Interim Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs at California State University, Maritime Academy.
In addition to California State University where his roles have predominantly consisted of academic affairs administration, Dr. Reichard held faculty positions at The Ohio State University; University of Delaware; University of Maryland, College Park; and Florida Atlantic University. He has numerous scholarly publications including books, articles, and book chapters, as well as scholarly papers, presentations, and conference participation. Dr. Reichard holds a BA from the College of Wooster, an MA from Vanderbilt University, and a PhD from Cornell University.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank Search Committee Chair, Christina Tortora, and the Search Committee members for their seven months of hard work and diligence in ensuring the success of this search, and the entire campus community, for their extensive, overwhelmingly positive feedback during Dr. Reichard’s visit.
Finally, I would like to give special thanks to Dr. Fred Naider for his great leadership during his service as Provost, and we look forward to his continued service as Distinguished Professor.
Please join me in welcoming Dr. Gary Reichard to the College of Staten Island family.
