The College of Staten Island women’s soccer team enjoyed a stellar week, posting a 3-0 record in opening competition, and they were rewarded with a pair of weekly honors from the City University of New York Athletic Conference. Senior Danielle Alexandrini coasted to Player of the Week honors, while senior keeper Kristy Colangelo was named Defensive Player of the Week.
Alexandrini was nothing short of sensational during opening week of competition. After posting six goals her junior season, the senior forward posted five goals this week alone. In CSI’s opener against NJCU she tallied two goals and then she posted another two-goal effort in CSI’s 3-1 win over Sussex CC. On Sunday, with their game against Old Westbury dying down, Alexandrini popped in a header from Samantha Wysokowski in the 78th minute to help lead CSI over Old Westbury, 1-0. Alexandrini leads CSI with 16 shots on the year, including 12 on goal.
On the defensive side, Colangelo guided CSI to a pair of shutout wins, including an eight-save performance against Old Westbury where she posted a pair of fingertip saves. The senior also made a sprawling save against Sussex to keep the Skylanders off of the scoreboard in the second half. She made 13 saves in total on the week, manning every minute between the pipes.
CSI is back in action tomorrow, when they travel to face Rutgers-Newark at 7pm.
