The College of Staten Island women’s tennis squad stayed perfect to start the 2015 season, turning back Brooklyn College this afternoon as part of CUNYAC play, by a 6-3 count.  The win lifted CSI to 4-0 overall and 1-0 to start the year, while Brooklyn fell to 1-2, 1-1, respectively.

CSI was positioned for a great win today after a great display in doubles play, where they scored three wins to take a commanding, 3-0, edge.  The Dolphins were playing without the services of undefeated senior Madiha Mulla, so the teams were shook up a little, making the wins that much more impressive.  In the top spot, Sabrina Bragerton-Nasert and Nozima Toshpulatova were a winning duo, 8-3, and at the No. 3 spot, the first-time duo of Viktoriya Volkova and Samantha Mazier took a one-sided, 8-0, win.

The middle flight proved to be the tough one, but CSI’s steady team of Michelle Kushnir and Hannah Ramirez proved capable, outlasting BC’s Diana Besha and Lauren Marino, 9-7.

CSI needed justtwo singles wins in six flights to secure victory and turned out going one better.  Bragerton-Nasert won her match at No. 2, 6-1, 6-1 over Suraya Maenhout, and two flights lower, Kushnir earned another win, clinching victory.  In the most heavily-contested flight, Mazier took a three set winner over Anastasia Volovik, 4-6, 6-0, 10-3, at the No. 5 spot.

CSI will return to acion with their undefeated season on the line on Wednesday, September 16, taking on Farmingdale State, at 4:30pm at the CSI Tennis Center.
