The College of Staten Island men’s tennis team pounced over York College for a win in the CUNYAC regular season finale, 8-1, at the CSI Tennis Center. The win lifted to 6-7 overall and 4-3 within the CUNYAC, guaranteeing them a first round home game when the postseason tournament kicks off next week. The Cardinals fell to 0-10, 0-6, respectively.
With top players Chris Pinto and Matthew Vesci given the day off, the Dolphins were still able to strike three wins after doubles. In the top spot, the CSI team of Andrew Adia and Brandon Nickel were able to turn away Felix Liew and Vimal Ramnarin by an 8-4 count, while CSI’s next two doubles teams got through their matches a bit quicker.
When play turned to singles, CSI was just as crisp, pulling out straight-set wins in four out of their five wins. That included a 6-0, 6-0, win by Adia in the top spot over Liew. Mohamed El Sayed, Tony Francis and Aldo Rodriguez also added wins in singles to go with their doubles victories. At No. 3, Nickel used three sets to move past Robertini Regis, 6-2, 4-6, 10-5.
York’s only win came at No. 2 Singles, where Ramnarin was able to slide by Mitchel Voloshin, 6-2, 6-3.
Up next for CSI will be a home date against Rutgers-Camden on Monday, April 25, at 3:30pm, at the CSI Tennis Center.
