CSI STRUGGLES IN SEASON OPENER, FALL TO RAMS IN STRAIGHT SETS, 3-0

CSI STRUGGLES IN SEASON OPENER, FALL TO RAMS IN STRAIGHT SETS, 3-0

GAME VIDEOPOSTGAME INTERVIEW – The College of Staten Island women’s volleyball team opened their 2016 season today at the CSI Sports & Recreation Center under new Head Coach, Jason Madsen. The Dolphins would squander their lead in the first set to put them behind 1-0 early on before falling in three straight to fall to 0-1 on the year while Farmingdale moves to 1-0.

The new look Dolphins came out with passion in the first set and kept the set close and took a 13-9 lead midway through the set. The Rams would fight their way back to a 16-15 lead before the Dolphins would call a timeout to stop the Rams’ surge. The timeout allowed the Dolphins to regain a slight lead as both teams started to close in on victory. The game would be tied up at 22-22 before the Rams would take a 24-22 lead. The Dolphins would take a deep breath and tie it back up at 24 before ultimately losing the first set 26-24 to fall 0-1 in the match.

The second set was more in favor of the Rams as they quickly got out to a 14-4 lead and kept the Dolphins at bay for the majority of the set as CSI was never able to get back into the groove from the first set.

The final set saw the Dolphins have one of their worst sets of all-time by only scoring two points after Farmingdale would score seven straight aces to take a 20-0 lead over CSI.  Vanessa Reyes would give the Dolphins their second point in the set after crushing one to the back right corner.  That kill would not be enough to rally her team as they would eventually fall 25-3.

The Dolphins will return to action on Saturday, September 10 where they will head to Lehman College for a tri-match against CCNY and Lehman for their first CUNYAC action of the season.
