“Auspicious Hope! in thy sweet garden grow Wreaths for each toil, a charm for every woe.”
–Thomas Campbell
To the College Community:
As the first full week of classes concludes, I am pleased to welcome back all of our returning students, faculty, and staff. For those who are new to the College of Staten Island, I extend to you a warm welcome to the CSI family.
The new academic year has already proven to be one of realized “Auspicious Hope!” Washington Monthly just announced its 2016 “America’s Best-Bang-for-the-Buck Colleges,” and the College of Staten Island is ranked 18th out of 386 schools in the Northeast category, from a national sample of 1,406 institutions. The primary criteria for Washington Monthly’s rankings are alumni salary potential, low student loan debt, and a deep commitment to enrolling and graduating first-generation students, which are all hallmarks of CSI. This remarkable achievement is even more impressive considering that CSI was ranked 326 in 2015.
This latest recognition follows a long list of local, regional, and national accolades bestowed upon the College in recent years. Because of you – the faculty, staff, and students – the reputation and prestige of the College have soared to heights never before seen.
While we face many challenges this academic year, including significant fiscal constraints, I am confident that we will continue to pursue and achieve academic excellence.
I wish you a happy and safe holiday weekend.
