The College of Staten Island’s newest varsity sport promises to have a new look as well with Head Coach Jason Madsen getting set to embark on his first official season in 2017, and they will do it against the backdrop of a 23-game slate that they hope will prove fruitful by season’s end.
Officially in their third season as a varsity sport, the Dolphins finished 8-20 a year ago after posting a 6-23 mark in 2015. They will unveil this year’s installment for the first time on their home floor, when they face off on February 16 against New Jersey City University at 7pm. Four days later they open the CUNYAC season with a trimatch at Brooklyn College to face the hosts and Medgar Evers College.
The team’s first CUNYAC home date is on February 28 against powerful Hunter College, and from there the Dolphins take a five-game road swing that finalizes with three-straight CUNYAC matches against Baruch College, CCNY, and Lehman College.
The Dolphins will finalize their 2017 season with six of their last seven matches at home, starting on March 23 against John Jay College and culminating with a trimatch against Wilkes College and Brooklyn College on April 8. April 11 ushers in the CUNYAC Tournament. The top six teams make the tournament. The semifinal teams meet on April 13 at Hunter College, with the conference champs representing at the NCAA Division III National Championship.
