Beginning Friday, Mar. 31, CUNY will incorporate the use of preferred names in Blackboard. After the change, faculty members will see the students’ preferred names in Blackboard in lieu of their legal names. It also means that the course roster in Blackboard will be the same as the CUNYfirst roster, eliminating confusion caused by some students’ having different names listed in the two systems.
Also for continuity purposes and to make identification of students easier, should duplicate or similar names result from a preferred name change, CUNY will also begin supplying CUNYfirst EMPL IDs into Blackboard. Student EMPL IDs will appear in the course Grade Center in the Student ID field and should be used (in addition to UUIDs) as a reference when reporting grades and at other times when the verification of a student’s identity is necessary.
