The College of Staten Island men’s tennis team has dropped their second consecutive match after winning seven straight. The Dolphins took on CUNYAC powerhouse Baruch College and dropped to 8-5 overall and 4-2 in the CUNYAC after an 8-1 loss. The Bearcats stay perfect in the CUNYAC at 5-0 while improving to 8-2 overall.
The Bearcats would sweep the Dolphins in doubles and head into singles with a 3-0 lead. The Dolphins nearly took the doubles games on court two and three but a big rally by the Bearcats helped them stay unblemished. The strong tandem of Chris Pinto and Raymond Hwang saw their lead dwindle on court two after holding an early lead.
When play switched to singles the Bearcats continued their dominant play. Matthew Vesci had Joaquin Azcue in a battle in set one, 4-6 before falling in the second 0-6. Alex Tsui was the lone winner for the Dolphins this afternoon in a strong showing. Tsui would cruise past his opponent, Ruben Davis, to achieve a 6-1 victory in both sets to prevent the Dolphins from being shut out.
The Dolphins return to action on Monday, April 24 where they will host Rutgers-Newark in the final regular season match at 3:30 PM.
