The College of Staten Island has announced the hiring of Emanuel Imperial as its newest assistant coach for both men’s and women’s tennis. Imperial will begin immediately in time for the women’s campaign set for launch next week. He takes over for Sabrina Bragerton-Nasert, who stepped away from duties at the close of 2017.
“Manny brings a championship mentality to the team as him and I have won a combine six CUNYAC Championships as players. He knows what it takes to win and I’m looking forward to him meeting the players and making an impact on our squad.” Kapetanakis on newly appointed assistant coach Imperial.
Imperial has plenty of familiarity with CSI tennis, having played against Dolphins’ sides for four seasons as part of the Baruch College men’s tennis team from 2006-09. Imperial was the No. 1 Singles player for the Bearcats side that accumulated four-straight CUNYAC Championships and NCAA Tournament appearances. During his playing days he was a Tennis Pro at Sportime at Randall’s Island, assisting various high school tennis programs from Manhattan and the Bronx, while offering private tennis instruction.
Most recently, Imperial has worked as a tennis pro at McCarren Park Tennis Center in Williamsburg, where he teaches private and semi-private lessons for all ages and offers early development and adult training as well. The Staten Island native is excited to be back on the college circuit, helping a Dolphins side achieve success in its quest for CUNYAC Championships on both sides.
“I’m looking forward to coaching, I know some of the players on the team and I feel I can improve each player. My goal for this season is to improve each player individually, both mentally and physically as we stride towards our ultimate goal of a CUNYAC Championship.” Coach Imperial on joining the Dolphins.
The Women’s Tennis season officially kicks on September 9, when the unit takes on Hunter College.
