The College of Staten Island women’s basketball unit secured its first CUNYAC Championship since 2005 last year, and they will be looking to defend their title in 2017-18 set against the backdrop of a 25-game slate that they unveil today.  The season starts officially in mid-November, and finalizes with the CUNYAC Championship playoff push in late-February.

CSI officially kicks it off on the road, travelling to St. Joseph’s College of Brooklyn on November 17, at 7pm.  They get their home season started three days later on November 18, ushering in the College of New Rochelle for a 2pm, Saturday matinee.  Up next is a showdown against NCAA Division I Wagner College at the Sports & Recreation Center on November 20.

CSI will close November with two more non-conference matches before travelling to John Jay College on December 2 for the intro of the conference season.  A week later sees their home conference opener against City College of New York, part of a doubleheader beginning at 5:30pm.  After three-straight home tests, CSI then embarks to Cambridge, Massachusetts, for a date with M.I.T. on December 29.

January 17 will feature a CSI rematch with Brooklyn College at the Sports & Recreation Center.  The teams have met two straight years in the CUNYAC Postseason, with Brooklyn winning in 2016 and the Dolphins defeating the Bulldogs last year for the title.  It is part of 11-straight CUNYAC matches to end the season for Dolphins, who officially close things out with a road date against perennial powers Lehman College on February 10 in the Bronx.

For the first time, the CUNYAC is moving to a six-team postseason tournament, one that will feature a bye for the top two seeded teams.  Play kicks off on February 18 at higher seeded quarterfinal teams.  The CUNYAC Semifinals (2/21) and Final (2/23), will be held at the Nat Holman Gymnasium at CCNY.  The winner of the tournament gains automatic entry into the NCAA Division III National Championship Tournament.
