The College of Staten Island Athletic Department has announced that the Class of 2018 to its coveted Hall of Fame will be inaugurated on November 1, 2018. To kick off the event, CSI is accepting nominations from the community. The nomination portion of the Hall of Fame celebration will extend through February, with finalists notified in the spring.
To qualify for CSI Athletics Hall of Fame status, a student-athlete is eligible if he/she has participated in two full seasons of varsity intercollegiate competition at CSI, was an outstanding athlete and made outstanding contributions or offered extraordinary service to athletics at CSI. Student-athletes are eligible at any time beginning five years after receiving his/her CSI degree. A person who has not qualified for a degree may be selected but may not be selected until five years have passed since he/she would normally have received his/her CSI degree.
A person who has served as a coach, trainer, manager, staff member, or athletic department administrator is also eligible if he/she made outstanding contributions or offered extraordinary service to varsity intercollegiate athletics at College of Staten Island/Staten Island Community College. Nominees are not considered until retirement or five years after the conclusion of relevant employment, volunteer service, death or until extraordinary circumstances dictate.
The Hall of Fame has honored 20 members in its history beginning in 2012 and in subsequent Hall of Fame inaugurations taking place every two years. In 2016, six members gained entry, based on nominations made by friends, family, teammates, and the community at large. 2018’s celebration will take place at a venue yet to be determined.
