Staten Island, NY | The College of Staten Island baseball team won for the second time in three games this weekend, lifting their overall record over .500 with a 4-1 win over the University of Maine at Presque Isle in a game played at Staten Island Technical High School. CSI lifted to 5-4 overall this season, while the Owls fell to 1-9.
CSI broke open a 0-0 stalemate in the fifth inning, pushing across a run when John Pomarico singled and later came in on a Jett Nouvertne triple. One inning later, CSI got healthy insurance fod starter Tom Musso with a three-run sixth.
Glenn Glennerster led off the bottom on the sixth with a double, and he later scored on a Sean Becker single. After CSI then loaded the bases, CSI got RBI-singles from freshmen Vincent Brennan and Scott Fodor to grab a 4-0 lead.
UMPI broke up the shutout in the seventh for a run, but Christian Capellan closed things down to record the save and preserve the win.
For CSI they moved to 1-0 in the CUNYAC, as UMPI is an associate member of the conference in 2018. The Owls fell to 1-5 against CUNYAC opponents.
CSI is back in action on Tuesday, when they travel to face Montclair State for 3:30pm showdown with the Red Hawks.
