Queens Village, NY | The College of Staten Island men’s tennis team survived the winter blitz on Monday by playing indoors at the Alley Pond Tennis Club but the results were not favorable, as the Dolphins were downed by Hunter College by an 8-1 count.  CSI fell to 1-3 overall and 0-2 in CUNYAC play, while Hunter raised their record to 4-0, 3-0 within the conference.

CSI’s lone win came early by way of doubles.  In the No. 3 spot, the team of Alex Tsui and David Luo stayed poised in a set with HC’s Jose Agregado and Ryan Hnang, taking an 8-2 decision.

In singles play, CSI just could not get it going, falling in straight sets in all but No. 6, where Tsui was downed for the first time this season by HC’s Filip Korityskiy, 2-6, 6-3, 10-7.

Double winners for Hunter included Sean Kemp, Nasser Ghaffer, Florimond Le Goupil-Maier, and Joel Cantina.  Originally slated for a 9:30 am start at the National Tennis Center, the match was moved to indoors at Alley Pond, and started at 11:00 am.

CSI will next take on York College on Wednesday at 12:00 pm at the CSI Tennis Center, their home opener.
