Staten Island, NY | Victoria Sanchez’s brace kept the Dolphins perfect in the CUNYAC this morning after they defeated the Bulldogs 4-0 at the CSI Soccer Complex. With the win, Staten Island improved to 9-6, 6-0 while Brooklyn continues to struggle, dropping to 3-10, 2-4.

The Dolphins came out and dominated the game from the opening whistle, peppering Ketty Pena in net.  Adrianna Parello was the first to test Pena, unleashing a shot from distance forcing Pena to make a save. Victoria Sanchez got the start this afternoon and made the most of her opportunity.

18 minutes into the game Sanchez found the back of the net. Sanchez won the ball and dribbled through several Brooklyn defenders before uncorking a low driven shot into the side netting.  The goal would be Sanchez’s second of the season, however, she would not be done scoring for the game. Sanchez would strike just four minutes later when Mirsade Pelinkovic beat a pair of defenders down the left flank and sent a low cross across the box which found Sanchez’s foot for an easy tap-in.

Pelinkovic nearly gave the Dolphins a 3-0 lead in the 38th minute but saw her shot bounce off of the woodwork and back into play and without a Dolphin in the area, the Bulldogs were able to clear their lines.

The Dolphins went into halftime with a 2-0 lead and a 22-0 edge in shots.

Just six minutes after the second half started senior Brianna DiStefano scored her third goal of the season.  DiStefano was able to capitalize off of a pass from Lizbeth Aparicio and hit it into the back of the net. Prior to Aparicio’s pass, Parello sent in a beautiful cross which allowed Aparicio to set up DiStefano.

Paulina Ambrus had several chances to score in the second half, however, Pena kept the ball out of the net to prevent Ambrus from scoring. With just 10 seconds remaining in the game, Alexa Appel notched her third of the season by receiving a cross from Aparicio and placing it into the back of the net.

Staten Island dominated play all game and was rewarded with a 4-0 victory to remain undefeated in the CUNYAC and take the number one seed.

The Dolphins will return to action on Monday, October 22 when they play host to Rosemont College at 3:00 pm at the CSI Soccer Complex.
