The City University of New York Athletic Conference announced their first set of weekly honors for Outdoor Track & Field today, and the Dolphins were honored with a pair of citations. Indoor Championship MVP Kharyn Ethridge took the top honors on the women’s side with Track Performer of the Week, while newcomer Jared Nusser was named Rookie of the Week on the men’s side. Both performed this past week at the Ursinus College Outdoor Invitational.
The Ursinus College meet was an unscored meet for the 16 teams present at the weekend Invitational, but Ethridge and Nusser shined all the same. For Ethridge, she picked up right where she left off during indoor season, participating in a pair of events, leading CSI in each. She placed 6th overall in the field of 55 runners in the 1,500-meter Run with a time of 5:22.44. Then the 4×400 team finished 6th overall in the field of 11 teams, as Ethridge ran anchor and put up a split of 1:05.39.
For Nusser, the Ursinus meet was his true debut. Joining the Dolphins specifically for the outdoor season, Nusser put up quite the performance at Ursinus. He finished 15th overall in the 100-meter Dash preliminaries with a time of 11.59 among 48 runners. He had his best showing in the 200-meter Dash, posting a great time of 22.81 for 5th overall in the field of 38 runners. Finally, he ran the third leg of CSI’s 4×400, posting a split of 1:01 to help CSI to 13h place overall among 16 teams.
With their first official meet behind them the Dolphins will now look to build on their success as they will focus on the Danny Curran Invitational this weekend, hosted by Widener University at 10am.
